Now that my PSP is Modded, How do I use it?
Congratulations, now the fun begins!
1. The First thing you need to do is format a memory card with the PSP to install the file structure that the PSP will use to find your games, movies, and other goodies.
2. Now connect your PSP to the Computer or just stick the memory card in a reader , it does not matter.
3. You should see a bunch of new folders on the memory stick.
4. The most important one(in my opinion) is the /ISO folder. This is where you put game backups.
5. There are others like /MUSIC and /VIDEO and /PICTURE, I bet you can figure out what goes in there. PSP only reads PSP compatable formats so make sure you are putting the right file into those folder, otherwise the PSP get mad at you and says no. There is a specific FAQ question covering Video in more detail.
6. Now if you have the .iso or .cso of the game in the /ISO folder, you can disconnect from the PC or put the mem card back in your PSP.
7. In the Main Menu of your PSP, hit "SELECT", a little menu will pop up. Scroll down to the "UMD ISO MODE" Option, Scroll right until "Sony NP9660" is highlighted. Scroll down to "EXIT" and hit "X". Now you don't need a UMD in the drive to play backups!
8. Goto the "GAME" icon in the PSP's Main Menu, scroll all the way down to the bottom to "Memory Stick", hit "X". You should see the games splash icons as if you had the UMD in the PSP. Hit "X" to launch your game. You will notice launch and load time greatly reduced!
If new firmware comes out , can I update it?
Yes, here is a direct link(coming soon) to the latest firmware. Open the .rar file. Copy the /UPDATE folder to /PSP/GAME on your memory stick. Goto "Games", "Memory Stick" in your PSP. Launch the M33-3 Icon. Hit "X" to install. You are now running 3.71M33-3!
How do I make backups of my own games?
Remember that little menu in step 7 of the First FAQ Question? It doesn't matter, I am going to tell you how to do it anyway.
1. Hit "SELECT" in the Main Menu of the PSP. A little menu will pop up.
2. Scroll down to the "USB DEVICE" option. Scroll Left, to "UMD Disc"
3. Scroll down to "Exit", hit "X"
4. Now scroll Left in the Main Menu to "USB Connection" in "Settings"
5. Link PSP to PC.
6. Instead of the contents of your memory stick you will get a file with the extension .iso. Drag and drop this file to your desktop.
7. Rename the .iso file to the name of your game .iso.
8. Disconnect from the PC
9. Go back into the "SELECT" Menu and put the "USB Device" back to "Memory Stick". Exit the menu.
10. Reconnect to the PC, you should see your file folders again. Drag the new .iso with your name to the /ISO Folder.
11. You can now play the backup of your game on the memory stick!
Is any of this illegal?
No. As Owners of hardware we are allowed to do anything we want to it. It may void our warranty, but it is our right to run any firmware or software we want on our hardware.
We have the right to use a backup of software we legally own. I personally do not support piracy, and only play .iso's of games that I own. It increases the re-sale value of a game when it has only been used once to make a back up, or even better still sealed, because you download a /ISO of the game that you bought. Games publishers need us to buy games so they can make more and better games. Please only use backups that you legally have a right to.
I tried to install Firmware myself and now it won't turn on. Did I "brick" it?
Yes, but it is a very easy process to unbrick it, and you get custom firmware at the same time!
How can I play movies on my PSP?
If it is a UMD .iso Backup you will put it in the /ISO/VIDEO Folder. If not it goes in the /VIDEO Folder(most of the time). You will need to feed the PSP files it can read. More details and a link to a free easy movie creator coming soon.
How can I play PS1 games on my PSP?
There are 3 basic ways to get this done. The first is my personal favorite as it is the easiest and most reliable, use a backup of a game that is available from the PSNetwork Store. Second is using a PS1 emulator. You put the .iso image oin the directory and launch from a menu. Low game compatability and speed issues make plauge this method. The third method involves creating your own eboot from an .iso. This is the most difficult way to play PS1, but it can be done, personally I just find a eboot that someone else has made.
How do I run (insert program here) on my PSP?
There are alot of programs out for the PSP, I do not have time to try them all. My best advise is to read the readme or faq included with the program.I will be posting links to programs that I can get to work for me and how I did it soon.
(Insert program here) does not run correctly!
See above post.
Can I play Multi-player PSP Games online?
Yes, the PSP M33 looks the same to the servers.
What is this homebrew stuff?
A wide collection of programs made by users for the rest of the community to enjoy. Currently there are emulators, PDA apps, GPS Navigation and more. If you can think of of, its either being worked on or already is out. If not you can always make your own.
